Launching Your Career

Dear Learners,

Studying a nationally recognised qualification is a major step towards building your future career. Your next big step is turning your qualification into a job opportunity.

Here are some practical tips to help you in your job search:

  • Update your resume: Highlight the skills and experience you’ve gained during your course. Employers value real-world training, so consider how your practical knowledge can be applied in the workplace.
  • Stay in touch: Networking can open the door to a range of job opportunities, so reach out to the people you know in the industry. Consider the contacts you’ve made during work placement.
  • Research the organisations advertising: What are their goals, their values, and the skills and experience they’re looking for in a candidate? Understanding their expectations will help you to tailor your application and better your chance of getting an interview.
  • Practise your interview skills: How you communicate and present yourself are key to success, so prepare yourself by going over common interview questions. You can ask a friend to help you act out an interview and seek feedback from them afterwards.
  • Stay open and persistent: Rejection is a common part of the job search, so it’s important that you keep a positive attitude. Every interview adds to your experience. If you’re rejected for a role, seek feedback and take the time to reflect on how you’re approaching the search.

Remember, your journey doesn’t end with graduation. We’re here to help you as you transition from study to the workforce. We often include job opportunities at the bottom of our newsletters, so be on the lookout if you’re nearing the end of your course or have just graduated.

Happy Friday! You’ve got this.
